Police support celebrations in St Matthews
Neighbourhood officers will be joining in celebrations in St Matthews on Friday (August 7) at the tenth annual ‘Community Parks Day’.
The event in Bushey Park brings together the community to celebrate life in St Matthews and the cultural diversity of residents of the estate. The theme this year is ‘Around the World’.
Neighbourhood officers will be there between 3pm and 7pm to chat to residents and join in the fun. They will also be taking on the local community in a tug of war.
Sergeant Gemma Streather from the St Matthews neighbourhood team said: “This is a really popular annual event in St Matthews and we are delighted to be taking part.
“The St Matthews Estate does have a lot to celebrate. Over the last ten years burglaries have fallen by 84 per cent, stolen vehicles are down by 86 per cent and reports of criminal damage have been reduced by 66 per cent.
“The neighbourhood team is committed to working with residents to improve the estate even further. Events such as these are great opportunities for officers to engage with people of all ages. We will have a police car available for children to sit in, while mums and dads can chat to the police, housing officers, neighbourhood manager and other key agencies to discuss how the estate can be improved even further. We look forward to seeing you there.”
The Community Parks Day will include activities for all ages including inflatables, table football, mendhi, nail art, face painting and performances by local children.
The event is co-ordinated by The Contact Project, working in partnership with other local community groups and agencies within St Matthews, who fund the event alongside the Leicester Mercury Action Trust.
