Armed robbery at jewellers in Lutterworth
Police are appealing for witnesses following a report of an armed robbery at a jewellers on Church Street in Lutterworth.
The incident happened at about 2.22pm this afternoon (Tuesday August 4, 2009) when three men entered the store and threatened staff with what is believed to be a handgun.
They then made off with jewellery and cash. No shots were fired and nobody was injured. Armed officers were deployed to conduct a search of the area.
The men, described as black, ran off in the direction of Bank Street after the incident. Some of the jewellery was dropped in Bank Street and later recovered by officers.
Following the incident at about 2.29pm this afternoon police were called to a report of a road traffic collision on A426 Rugby Road at the junction with Stoney Hollow. Police believe this may be linked to the robbery.
The collision involved two vehicles. One of the vehicles, a grey Saab containing three people, failed to stop and left the scene of the accident.
The driver of the other vehicle wasn’t injured.
Detective Inspector Dave Richardson, who is investigating the robbery, said: “The grey Saab involved in the collision may have been involved in the robbery. Did you witness the collision or see the grey Saab beforehand or afterwards? If so, then please contact me.
"If you witnessed anybody acting suspiciously in the area before the robbery or saw the three men running along Church Street or Bank Street then please get in touch.
“I would appeal to anybody who witnessed this incident who hasn’t contacted the police already to come forward."
