CircleLine bus service improvements

Nearly £100,000 has been invested in improving bus stops on a route that loops around Leicester.

Leicestershire County Council has carried out a raft of measures for users of the service 40 CircleLine bus route.

Bus stop facilities along the CircleLine route, including Glenfield, Meridian Business Park Estate, Stoughton Drive South, Manor Road, Wigston Road, Leicester Road and Stoughton Road in Oadby have benefited from the improvements over the last three years.

These include a number of new bus stops, better information displays and raised kerbs.

Raised kerbs bring the pavement in line with the bus entrance, making it easier for everyone including disabled users, people with pushchairs and the elderly to get on and off the bus.

These improvements complement the new ‘low floor’ buses provided by Centrebus for operation on this service. The upgraded stops are also used by other bus services.

Matthew Lugg, Director of highways and transportation at Leicestershire County Council, said:” We are taking active steps to improve bus service quality and make bus access easier including working in partnership with local bus operators. “We want to encourage new bus users as well as improve services to existing passengers.”

Jointly supported by the County and City Councils, the CircleLine bus route runs around the edge of the city, and is a great way to get from one side of Leicester to the other without having to change buses in the city centre.

It serves key destinations such as Fosse Park shopping centre, the General and Glenfield Hospitals and Meridian Business Park. An all-day ticket costs just £2.
