Appeal for witnesses following assault in the city
Police are trying to trace three youths who they believe may have witnessed an assault in Leicester city centre.
The incident happened at around 5.20pm on Monday August 3, when a 29-year-old woman was hit on the back of her head from behind, by an unknown person.
The incident happened in Belgrave Gate near to the junction with Abbey Street.
The victim recalls seeing three youths walk past her after the incident, in the direction of the Clock Tower.
The youths are described as Asian and all were wearing black trousers, tops and baseball caps. They are believed to be aged around 18, 16 and 14. The oldest looking youth had hair growing on his chin.
The victim received an injury to her head as a result of the assault but did not attend the hospital for treatment.
PC Dan Persse, the officer investigating the incident, said: “We are hoping that witnesses to this incident, in particular the three youths, who were seen in the area, will contact us.
“At 5.20pm it is likely that an increased number of people would have been in the area, travelling home from work and we want these people to think back. Did you travel along Belgrave gate on Monday at around 5.20pm? Can you remember seeing an injured woman? Did you see a group of three youths walking along the road or near to the Clock Tower?
“If you think you have information on the incident or the witnesses we are trying to trace then please get in touch.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1784 Dan Persse on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 1784. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers free* and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
