Start community composting

People who would be interested in seeing “community composting” schemes established in their neighbourhoods are invited to find out more.

Community composting is an innovative way of enabling residents to collectively compost their green household waste.

Leicestershire Waste Partnership is seeking to support a small number of small scale projects across the county and is inviting any group that is interested to request an expression of interest form.

A shortlist of projects will be selected from the expression of interest forms received with successful projects being given the chance to apply for funding of between 50 -70 per cent to cover their initial set up and running costs over the first 12 months.

The deadline for receiving completed expression of interest forms is 4pm on Wednesday, 16th September.

Chairman of the Leicestershire Waste Partnership Michael Rook said: “We are excited about working with communities to develop community composting projects within the county.

“We hope that the successful projects will provide models of good practice for how other communities could develop such exciting projects, which not only help reduce waste but provide wider social and environmental benefits.”

The community composting scheme is open to any established community group within Leicestershire, including allotment societies, parish councils or environmental groups.
