Police are appealing for the driver of a car, who may be a key witness to an assault in Coalville, to come forward.

The assault happened on Friday July 31 near to the A50, where the victim, a man in his thirties, was assaulted.

The victim then walked to the A50 where he flagged down a vehicle, described as an old blue car, and asked for a lift to Whitwick.

The car would have picked him up between 7pm and 8.30pm on the A50 near to Copt Oak and dropped him off in Whitwick at the Jet station on Talbot Street.

Four people, aged 48, 42, 27 and 15-years-old, were arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on police bail.

Detective Constable Jo Ranson, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The man in the car could recall key details about the victim following the assault that may help our investigation.

“The victim told the driver that he was on a stag night out and had been left by his friends. The victim was also bare foot, which we believe would have grabbed the driver’s attention.

“If you can remember picking someone up in circumstances similar to this, or you are aware of someone else who may have, we want you to call us. Your information could help fill in vital parts of our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4378 Jo Ranson Hicks on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 4378.  Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
