Officers in Thurnby Lodge say the sentencing of two burglars is good news for the area.

Ricky Roger Thorpe (20) was sentenced to 30 months for two burglaries and Kieron Sidney Palmer (19) was sentenced to 13 months for burglary and handling stolen goods. The offences happened between November 2008 and April 2009.

Sergeant Wayne Nimblette from the Keyham Lane Neighbourhood Action Team said: “Both these men are well known in their local community and have a long history with us and the youth offending team.

“The tended not to stray too far from home when committing their crimes so the victims were also their neighbours and community members.

“We hope that today’s result reassures the victims and residents of Thurnby Lodge that persistent burglars are now behind bars.”

On November 12, 2008 officers arrested Thorpe and Palmer and seized stolen items before the victim even knew their house had been burgled.

Local officers found Thorpe and Palmer close to the home with property on them that was later identified as being from the burglary. This included jewellery, mobile phones and foreign money. After extensive enquiries by Neighbourhood Action Team officers further property was recovered this included a laptop and a 60inch plasma television.

In a similar case on Thursday April 30 police received a call from a lady on Nursery Road saying there was a man in the garden of a nearby house with a Playstation 3 in his hands.

Police made a search of the area and found Ricky Thorpe on Hollybush Close. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Later officers recovered a laptop and a PlayStation 3 from outbuildings on Cross Keys Green. Fingerprints on the equipment matched Thorpe and he pleaded guilty to the crime at court.

Sergeant Nimblette added: “I’m really proud of the work by local officers and the Neighbourhood Action Team on these particular examples. Their quick thinking and persistence helped locate both the offenders and the stolen items.

“These sentences are a credit to them and the residents of Thurnby Lodge and surrounding areas who helped with the investigation.”
