Assault in Hinckley Road
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of an assault which happened in the Hinckley Road area of Leicester.
The incident happened around 8pm on Friday, 7 August, outside shops near Hinckley Road’s junction with Kirby Road.
An argument started between the victim and three other men. This turned to violence, and the victim sought shelter in a telephone kiosk where he was assaulted by two of the men.
At this point two passing women intervened to try to stop the assault. Police are particularly keen to speak to them.
The 32-year-old victim was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to minor injuries.
Two men, aged 23 and 25, have been arrested and released on police bail pending further enquiries.
PC Liz Evenden, the officer investigating the case, said: “A crowd gathered during this incident, so there were a large number of people who saw what happened. We would like them to come forward as they may have vital information.
“We are particularly keen to speak to the two women who tried to stop this assault.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 4512 Liz Evenden on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officers identification number 4512. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
