Police are appealing for witnesses following a racially motivated assault in the Braunstone Gate area of the city.

The incident happened at around 10pm on Wednesday August 12, during the Holland vs England match, at a bar near to Foxon Street.

As the 18-year-old victim, an Asian man, watched the match he was subjected to racist abuse from a man who was also watching the game.

At the end of the match the suspect left the bar and a short while later returned with a group of men.

They all began to racially abuse the victim and the suspect, from before, then assaulted him.

The victim received injuries to his face, back and collar bone as a result of the assault. Following the incident he attended the Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment. He has since been discharged.

The suspect is described as a white man. The men he was joined by are described as a group of dual heritage men.

Detective Constable Pete Davies, the officer investigating the incident, said: “Because of the football match I am sure there were a lot of people in the bar and in the area and we are appealing to these people.

“We want anyone who was in the Braunstone Gate area on Wednesday night to contact us with information they have on the assault.

“If you know those involved and saw where they went to after the incident we urge you to call us, the information you have could be vital to our investigation.”
