Foxton Locks by bus
Posted on 14/08/2009
Highways, Transportation & Waste Management
People planning a day out at Foxton Locks are being encouraged to travel there by hopping on a bus.
One of Leicestershire's best-known tourist attractions, Foxton receives around 200,000 visitors each year including many from outside the County.
People can reach the destination by bus by catching services to Foxton Village. Centrebus service 44 runs every hour through the day, from Monday to Saturday and links Market Harborough town centre and railway station with Foxton village.
From the village, it is just a half-mile walk west along the level canal to reach the locks.
Services to Market Harborough from Leicester include the Arriva X3, which leaves every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday.
Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Transportation, said: “Foxton Locks is a great place to visit for all the family. There are bus services that go directly to Foxton village and the locks are only a ten-minute walk away.
“Travelling by bus is more environmentally sustainable as it helps to reduce the amount of cars on our streets. We should all consider alternative modes of transport such as public transport, cycling and walking to help reduce carbon emissions.”
James Clifton, who is Chairman of Foxton Locks Partnership said, ”The Foxton is a great day out for visitors and the local community.
“From rest and relaxation to historical exploration, Foxton Locks has something for everyone - friendly places to eat and drink, sweeping countryside views, boat trips, delightful strolls, picnic areas, wildlife, heritage and much more."
