Distraction burglary in Leicester
Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a distraction burglary in Leicester.
The incident happened at around 3pm on Tuesday August 4, when the 82-year-old victim received a knock at his front door, in Gainsborough Road, by a man asking for places to rent in the area.
The victim spoke to the man for a few minutes, on the doorstep, before he left.
A short time later the victim went into his kitchen and found that his car keys had gone missing, he looked outside and saw his car being driven away.
The victim saw the car be driven along Bonnington Road, where it was parked, towards Greenhill Road and then out of sight.
The stolen car is a silver Ford Focus.
The man who approached the victim is described as white, aged in his twenties, around 5’8” tall, was of a slim build and had fair hair.
PC Thomas Longden, the officer investigating the incident, said: “The loss of this car has come as a huge blow to the victim as it was driven by his late wife. He is eager to get the car back and hopes that someone will have information that will lead to its return.
“If you were in the area on August 4 and can remember seeing a man matching the description and know who he is then we want you to call.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 914 Thomas Longden on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0914. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
