Young people in the Beaumont Leys area are being invited to join local police officers for an afternoon of sport.

The neighbourhood team for Abbey Meadows, the Stadium Estate and Parker Drive is organising a sports event on Wednesday August 19 to help officers get to know young people in the area and also provide them with positive activities to get involved with during the school holidays.

The event, which is being held at Alderman Richard Hallam School in Avebury Avenue between 2pm and 8pm, forms part of Leicestershire Constabulary’s Safer Summer campaign to reduce anti-social behaviour and divert young people into organised activities.

It hopes to build on three similar events which were held at the school in July.

PCSO Rob Spence, who has organised the event, said: “This promises to be a fun event and is open to all young people in the area.

“The event is supported by Leicester City Council’s ‘Sport on the Road’ team, Bikeability, Connexions and the Arson Task Force so there will be loads of activities for young people to try.

“There will also be a free barbecue for those taking part and an ice cream van will also be there.”

The neighbourhood team would like to thank Alderman Richard Hallam School for the use of their facilities.
