Police to visit 2,500 homes in Evington Road area of Leicester
Neighbourhood officers from Spinney Hill Park Police Station will be visiting 2,500 homes in the Evington Road area over the next month to discuss any community concerns which residents may have.
Reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour and litter is already a priority for the neighbourhood teams for the Evington Road Area and The Way Roads. Over the next month, officers will be increasing patrols at key times of the day and working closely with partner agencies to tackle these issues.
Sergeant Emma Matts said: “We see an increased number of people in the area during Ramadan and local businesses, such as takeaways, also stay open later which can lead to concerns in the community.
“We meet regularly with members of the mosque, residents and representatives from other agencies to discuss local concerns, and over the next month we will be working closely with the Council to ensure all the community can enjoy a safe and crime-free Ramadan.
“Measures include a Week of Action starting on Friday August 21 which includes enhanced street cleansing and increased patrols by street wardens and parking enforcement officers. The Council will also be monitoring businesses such as takeaways to ensure they are not breaching the conditions of their licence by staying open too late.
“Neighbourhood officers will also be visiting 2,500 homes to carry out a survey of issues affecting residents and to promote the neighbourhood team and the help which they can offer the community.
“If you are a resident or user of the Evington Road area, then I urge you to stop and chat to your neighbourhood officers when you see them on patrol and tell them of any community issues you may have.”
Leicester City Council’s cabinet member for health and community, Councillor Mohammed Dawood, said: “I am happy to give my support to any initiative such as this which helps improve safety in the community, and enables people to enjoy a peaceful Ramadan.
“By working together with the police and residents, we hope to ensure the holy month can be enjoyed by all.”
