Attempted distraction burglary in Coalville
Police are sending out a warning to residents in Coalville after an attempted distraction burglary.
The incident happened at around 12.20pm on Friday August 21, when the victim was approached by a man at his home, on Victoria Road, who claimed to be from the water board.
Fortunately the victim, a man in his seventies, did not believe the man and closed the door on him.
The victim saw the man walk off onto Park Road, in the direction of Albert Road.
The man is described as white, around 40-years-old, of a stocky build and around 5’6” tall. He had short light blond or brown hair and was clean shaven. He was wearing a light cream t-shirt, a green high visibility jacket and light coloured trousers.
Detective Constable Paul Davies, the officer investigating the incident, said: “Thankfully the victim was well aware of the dangers of letting unknown people into his home and we would like to praise him for his actions.
“But we want to make residents in Coalville aware of the suspect and ask them to not let him into their homes.
“If you are approached by someone who wants to enter your home, always ask them to come back at a time when someone else is there. All legitimate callers will have no problem with this.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC 291 Paul Davies on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 291. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
