Incident of harassment in the city
Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident of harassment in the city.
The incident happened on Thursday, August 20 at around 11.45am when the 51-year-old victim was walking with his Guide Dog through Nelson Mandella Park, in Welford Road.
The victim was approached by a man who shouted abuse at him, claiming his dog had just fouled in the park and he had not cleared it up.
The victim explained to the man that he could not see where his dog had just fouled as he was blind, but if he showed him where it was he would pick it up.
The suspect then claimed he did not believe the victim was blind and followed him as he walked to New Walk, continuing to shout abuse at him.
The suspect is described by the victim as sounding between 30 and 40-years-old and around 5’6” tall.
PC Steve Waft, who is investigating the incident said: “This incident left the victim feeling incredibly worried and vulnerable.
“Last Thursday was a sunny day and there would have been people on the park enjoying the weather. Maybe you were enjoying the sun on your lunch break or had taken your children to the park?
“We would ask members of the public to think back to see if they remember seeing or hearing anything. Any information could help for our enquiries.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 130 Steve Waft on 0116 222 2222 and follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer. When prompted key in his identification number 0130. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous, on 0800 555 111.
