Police are appealing for a key witness to come forward after an assault in Eyres Monsell.

The incident happened at around 1am on Sunday August 16, when a man and woman were picked up by a black cab on Belvoir Street.

During the journey the man assaulted the 23-year-old victim.

The taxi driver then dropped the two off in Hillsborough Road at around 1.30am. The man then assaulted the woman again in the street.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with ABH and is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates court on Tuesday September 1.

PC Emma Woodford, the officer investigating the incident, said: “We are hoping that the driver of the taxi will remember the assault and get in touch as they may hold vital information to our investigation.

“If you are the taxi driver or you know who the driver is then we urge you to contact us.

“If you was in the Hillsborough Road area on Sunday August 16 and can remember seeing or hearing the incident, then we would like to hear from you.”
