Police are appealing for a key witness to come forward after an assault in Eyres Monsell.

The incident happened at around 1am on Sunday August 16, when a man and woman were picked up by a black cab on Belvoir Street.

During the journey the man assaulted the 23-year-old victim.

The taxi driver then dropped the two off in Hillsborough Road at around 1.30am. The man then assaulted the woman again in the street.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with ABH and is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates court on Tuesday September 1.

PC Emma Woodford, the officer investigating the incident, said: We are hoping that the driver of the taxi will remember the assault and get in touch as they may hold vital information to our investigation.
