Police in Hinckley are concerned for the safety of a 71 year old woman who has been missing from her home in Burbage since 2pm on Sunday 30th August 2009.

Joan Wilkins, suffers from Alzheimers disease and lives with her husband on Brookside in Burbage. She left her home at 2 oclock yesterday afternoon to pick blackberries and hasnt been seen since.

She is five foot 2 inches tall, of slim build and has blonde grey hair which is tied up in a bun. She is wearing bright green trousers, black shoes, a brown shirt with embroidery on it and a lilac mohair jacket. She is also wearing an SOS pendant around her neck detailing her medication which she doesnt have with her.

Police search teams are out in the area and the police helicopter is also being used.

Inspector Nigel Smith, who is leading the search, said; We are obviously concerned for Mrs Wilkins welfare because she has been missing overnight and the weather has been cold and rainy. She is wearing quite distinctive clothing as she has on bright green trousers and a lilac jacket and I am hoping that if people see her they will recognise her description and give us a call. She does suffer from Alzheimers and doesnt have her medication with her so we are keen to find her as soon as possible.

Anyone who thinks they see someone matching Mrs Wilkins description is asked to call the police in Leicester (0116) 222 2222.
