Strolls on your doorstep

A 60-minute stroll through Oadby is offering residents a health boost and the chance to explore part of Leicestershire.

People are being encouraged to join the two-mile walk, part of the Stepping Stones challenge, taking place at 1pm on Thursday 24th, September and starting at the corner of Ash Tree Road and Glen Road.

A free pedometer will be given to those completing the two-mile route which takes participants along Ash Tree Close and Coombe Rise, to Coombe Park beyond the college, across the golf course and on to Mere Lane, returning along Glen Road.

The walk includes some stiles and or gates and can be muddy in places so people are asked to wear suitable footwear and bring waterproof clothing.

The walk is one of 10 in and around the borough outlined in a booklet produced by the Stepping Stones Project and the Active Together Project. The routes, which are perfect for lunchtimes, vary in length with one being the easiest and 10 the hardest. By completing all of them, people will have walked 40,000 steps - the same length as the entire boundary of Oadby and Wigston Borough!

Anyone who cannot make the walk can pick up a free copy of the 'Strolls on your doorstep' booklet from Oadby and Wigston libraries, Brocks Hill Country Park and Oadby and Wigston Borough Council Offices or by phoning the Stepping Stones Project on 0116 305 7221.

The stroll is one of many events being held as part of Leicestershire County Council’s Walking Week Festival, running from 19th-27th September. More information can be found at www.leics.go.uk/walkingweek.

Booking for the walk is essential so please phone Andy Jackson on 0116 305 7221.
