Loughborough MP backs High Pay Commission

Andy Reed MP yesterday backed calls for a High Pay Commission to be set up.

"We need t get to grips with the growing disparity of pay in the UK. It seems to me that the happier societies are those that have the lowest ratios of top and lowest wages. Its does seem that social justice does go hand in hand wit a better society.

I have signed up to the message below on the Compass website:

"I've just signed up to the campaign for a High Pay Commission because I believe in a fairer, more equal society and an economy run for the many not just the few - I know you do too. It's why I'd urge you to join the call for a High Pay Commission.

As reported in The Guardian over 100 high-profile politicians, economists, academics, writers, journalists, bloggers, campaigners and trade unionists have offered their backing to a High Pay Commission including Brendan Barber, Vince Cable, Jon Cruddas, Helena Kennedy, Caroline Lucas and Polly Toynbee. Will you join them?

It was greed and excess that helped bring down our economy and has impacted on the lives of all of us; we've all heard of a friend, neighbour or colleague who's lost their job or even their home. The unjust rewards of a few hundred "masters of the universe" exacerbated the risks we were all exposed to many times over.

I want a High Pay Commission to launch a wide-ranging review of excessive pay and consider proposals such as maximum wage ratios and bonus taxation. I hope you'll support this.
