Snibston awaits world-famous desford colliery band

Snibston is looking forward to welcoming Desford Colliery Band this Saturday (12 September) at 7.30pm.

The world-famous band will play a special evening concert as part of Snibston’s Miners’ Gala celebrations, a fun-filled family event that mirrors galas from the colliery’s working days.

Traditionally, colliery bands were an important way for miners to come together and express themselves socially and musically. From the earliest days, colliery bands epitomised community focus and local pride.

Ernie White, Leicestershire County County Council Cabinet Member for Museums said “Snibston are very excited to play host to such a celebrated colliery band. We are especially lucky to entertain them this year, as earlier in the day the band will be competing in the British Open Championships in Birmingham. Afterwards, they will come to Snibston to entertain our local residents by performing a wide repertoire of music; it’ll be a fantastic event- something to look forward to”.

Desford Colliery Band is performing at Snibston at 7.30pm on Saturday, 12 September. Tickets for the concert cost £3 and are limited in number. To make sure you will see this great band in action, call Snibston to book tickets on 01530 278444. For further details visit  www.snibston.com or email: snibston@leics.gov.uk
