An official launch of new-style services to support Leicestershire residents experiencing mental health difficulties is to take place.

The new community-based services have been introduced by Leicestershire County Council and its partners in the health and voluntary sectors.

Social drop-in, befriending and inclusion support services are available to anyone suffering from mental health difficulties and offer opportunities to meet and share experiences, get advice, information and one-to-one support.

The launch event will take place at Braunstone Civic Centre between 2pm and 5.30pm on Thursday, September 24 and will include presentations from people who use the services.

The level of support offered is tailored to people’s individual needs and plans to enable them to be as independent as possible, to gain confidence and skills, and to be included in the community. It also offers opportunities and choices in training, education, volunteering, paid work and leisure activities.

These services are provided in places all around the county, and support is available at different times including in the evening and at weekends.

The services have now had time to develop and Leicestershire County Council will be celebrating the good work that’s been happening by officially launching the service.

This will provide the opportunity for people using these services to share with us how the services are actually supporting them.

David Sprason, Cabinet Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said:

“The new Support Services are the result of the County Council’s commitment to modernising day services for people with mental health difficulties.

“Services are now much better able to provide more flexible and individual support, and people are not expected to follow a specific pre-determined pathway.

“This event is a celebration of the achievements of all the people involved in the new services and our commitment to ensuring that people who experience mental health difficulties have real community opportunities to support their recovery and wellbeing.”
