Freelancing Guide published

A guide to help freelancers thrive during the recession is being launched by Creative Leicestershire on Wednesday 30 September. The Guide is launched with a seminar looking at how to best succeed as a freelancer at the Leicester Creative Business Depot, 31 Rutland St, Leicester at 6pm. Panel members include practitioners from a range of creative fields including dance, media, writing, art and design.

The event is fully booked, but free copies of the Guide will be available from the Leicester Creative Business Depot reception during normal business hours from 30 September. You can also read the guide online at the Information page of www.creativeleicestershire.org.uk from 30 Sept.

‘A lot of people in the creative sector move from project to project, managing and marketing themselves as freelancers. It can be the most exciting and satisfying way to work and our new guide gives you some key pointers on how to succeed. We have over 1000 freelancers on our mailing list at Creative Leicestershire and the numbers are increasing. For many employers, contracting freelancers is a lower risk option than employing someone in the current climate.’ said Fred Brookes, Business Development Adviser for the Creative Leicestershire programme.

Fred works one-to-one with small creative businesses in Leicestershire and Rutland and has led on the production of the Guide which also has input from Mahmood Reza of Pro Active Resolutions, a Leicester-based accounting and business management company. The Guide and Creative Leicestershire programme as a whole is funded by local authorities in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland; Arts Council England and East Midlands Development Agency.
