Want to be a composting champion?

Composting champions from across Leicestershire are being sought to take part in an exciting project.

Following the success of recent training sessions, the Leicestershire Waste Partnership is looking to recruit more volunteers to raise the profile of home-composting.

These 'Master Composters' will use their skills and enthusiasm to promote the benefits of home-composting within their communities, encourage more people to get involved and help with any queries or problems.

Free training will be provided so anyone can volunteer, even if they have never composted before. People will also receive free resources, travel expenses plus on-going support from a co-ordinator.

In return, volunteers need to spend a minimum of 30 hours over 12 months spreading the composting message in their local communities.

The training session will take place on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th October and people are being encouraged to get involved.

Michael Rook, Chairman of the Leicestershire Waste Partnership, said: "Home-composting is a great way to turn household waste into a valuable and important resource. This scheme is also a great way for enlightened volunteers to meet new people, use their talents and knowledge and learn new skills."

To find out more about becoming a master composter and for a registration pack, please visit www.leics.gov.uk/waste/master_composter-3 or call 0116 305 5839.

The scheme is open to residents of Leicestershire (excluding Leicester City) and volunteers must be over 18.
