Boost for busy Coalville junction

Work has started on a £230,000 scheme to boost road safety at a busy junction in Coalville.

The improvements at the junction of the A511 Stephenson Way and Broom Leys Road are being made following a study which showed that eight out of 10 accidents involved right-turning vehicles.

The County Council project will also improve traffic flow through the junction and includes better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet member for Highways and Transportation, said: “We take all aspects of road safety very seriously and these improvements are designed to reduce the number of accidents at the junction.

“We also hope that better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists will encourage more people to walk and cycle, which is a healthier and more environmentally-friendly way of travelling.”

The main construction work will take around 12 weeks. Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum.

Temporary traffic management arrangements will be in use for the duration of the work to protect both the public and the workforce.
