Three-year plan to tackle crime and disorder

A three-year plan to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Leicestershire has been unveiled.

Reducing re-offending, tackling anti-social behaviour and reducing drug and alcohol misuse are among the measures in the Safer Communities Plan.

The plan highlights how the County Council and its partners, the police, probation service and district community safety partnerships will make the county safer for residents and visitors.

Priority areas are:

• Making people safer from violence

• Reducing burglary

• Tackling anti-social behaviour

• Reducing the harm caused by drug and alcohol misuse

• Tackling domestic violence

• Reducing the risk of people re-offending

• Building community confidence

The council’s Deputy Leader, Byron Rhodes, said: “This plan will help us to improve the quality and safety and people’s lives, by reducing crime and anti-social behaviour and the harm caused by drugs and alcohol.”

Examples of specific action for the County Council include:

• Work to prevent underage sales of alcohol and knives

• Work by the Youth Offending Service to prevent offending and re-offending by young people

• Supporting people affected by domestic abuse

• Education and positive activities for young people

• Commissioning drug treatment services

• Making County Council buildings secure from crime

The County Council’s partners are the police, the district community safety partnerships, the probation service, the fire service and local NHS bodies.

The Cabinet will discuss the plan at 2.30pm on October 6.
