Snibston Discovery Museum is showcasing artistic interpretations of Coalville’s history by young local historians.
Year 5 children from Coalville’s Broom Leys Primary School are displaying their own illustrations at the museum as part of their local history project. Their sources of inspiration have included a presentation from local historian, Denis Baker, and the Coalville Town Trail walk.
The project, which focuses on the local mining industry and a comparison of Coalville past and present, is free to view and will run until 14th October 2009.
Robert Prior, Headteacher at Broom Leys Primary School, said: "I believe it is incredibly important for children to learn about the history and culture of their local area. The work the children have produced is both creative and imaginative."
Ernie White, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet Member for Museums said: “It’s wonderful to see school children engaging in their local history, and what better place to showcase their work than Snibston, an industrial centrepiece at the heart of Coalville’s mining heritage.”
For more information on the exhibition, call Snibston on 01530 278444.
