Hands on Tudors at Donington le Heath Manor House
Posted on 02/10/2009
Community Services
As part of the nationwide Family Learning Festival, Donington le Heath Manor House will be alive with Tudor Characters from 11-4pm on 11th October 2009 living their 16th century lives.
The hand-picked band of costumed Tudor experts will be demonstrating a variety of period craft activities, many of which visitors can have a go at. Other have-a-go sessions include marchpane making, drawing, dancing, gardening and food preparation.
Musicians will be playing Tudor tunes on period instruments. Wood turning will be carried out on a pole lathe.
All the Tudor Characters are willing to share their knowledge about the period so visitors are encouraged to ask them questions as well as trying out the Tudor activities.
Leicestershire County Council’s Donington le Heath Manor House dates from the 13th century and probably looked very similar to its present appearance in the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
Richard Knox, The Keeper of Donington, said: “This excellent event is one of our most popular of the year as it combines fun and learning in equal measure and, of course, it ties in wonderfully with the school curriculum. What better way to learn about the Tudors than talking to one?”
Hands On Tudor runs from 11am-4pm on Sunday 11th October and admission is free.
Donington le Heath Manor House is on the South West edge of Coalville, near Hugglescote.
