Boost for recycling in Market Harborough
Posted on 02/10/2009
Highways, Transportation & Waste Management
A Market Harborough recycling facility is set to receive a facelift next month.
Residents will benefit from a new road surface which is being put in at the town's household waste and recycling site.
The improvement follows brand new canopies introduced at the site earlier this year which are helping residents recycle whatever the weather.
The facility, which collects 5,300 tonnes of waste and recycles 70% of materials each year, will have to close for one day on Tuesday, 13th October whilst the work takes place.
Tony Kershaw, County Council Cabinet Member for Waste Management, said: "Our recycling and household waste sites are very popular and allow people to keep recycling more and more.
“This improvement will ensure continued good service for all local residents."
There are 14 recycling and household waste sites across Leicestershire where residents are able to recycle a range of materials, including electrical items, Tetra Paks and yogurt pots.
For more information on recycling and household waste sites in Leicestershire visit www.leics.gov.uk/waste or call 0116 305 0001.
Market Harborough Recycling and Household Waste Site is located on Riverside Industrial Park, Market Harborough, LE16 7PT.
Notes:
People can recycle a variety of household items at the County Council's 14 sites including electrical goods, scrap metal, clothes and garden waste, as well as general rubbish.
Every year, they handle more than 100,000 tonnes of materials and currently more than 70 per cent of this is recycled or re-used.
All sites are open seven-days-a-week, 8am to 8pm (April to October) and 8am to 6pm (November to March).
