Celebrations as young people's achievements are rewarded!

Over 200 young people from Leicestershire were praised for their achievements in obtaining their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.  A special presentation evening in honour of all involved took place last month (20th September) at the Sketchley Grange Hotel in Burbage, Hinckley.

Young people received Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.  The awards are gained by pursing four sections – Physical, Volunteering, Skill and Expedition. Usually it takes about a year to complete one of the levels.

The awards were presented by Roger Wilson, the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council.

Young people who received the awards came from: Ashby School, Ashby Home School, Ashby Ivanhoe Community College, Dixie Grammar School, Dorothy Goodman School, Groby Community College, Newbridge High School, William Bradford Community College and John Cleveland College.

Roger Wilson, the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, said:

"This is a marvellous achievement for our young people and just shows how dedicated they have all been in order to obtain the award.  A great deal of work and effort has been put in by everyone including parents, award leaders and volunteers without whom all of this would not have been possible.  The Duke of Edinburgh Awards are a great way for young people to build on a whole range of skills and an opportunity for them to shine! Well done to them all!"
