Lead theft from church in Long Whatton

Lead theft from church in Long Whatton
Police are appealing for witnesses after a church in Long Whatton, Loughborough was targeted for the second time in a month by thieves looking for lead.
The most recent incident happened sometime between the morning of Monday October 5 and 10am on Wednesday October 7, when the roof to All Saints Church on Mill Lane began leaking.
The suspects did not manage to pull the lead from the roof and left empty handed.
This follows on from an earlier incident that happened between Wednesday September 2 and 11am on Thursday September 3, when again the roof began leaking, soaking the curtains inside.
This time the suspects managed to steal eight of the ten bales of lead from the vestry roof.
PC Paul Anderson, the officer investigating the incident, said: “In the most recent attempt the lead was found hanging from the roof, which makes us believe that the suspects were disturbed before they managed to pull the whole lot off.
“We would like anyone who witnessed either of the incidents to contact us. We are particularly interested in talking to anyone who thinks they may have disturbed the suspects in their most recent attempt to steal the lead.
"I would also like to ask anybody who works in the scrap mental industry who gets offered any lead in suspicious circumstances to contact us as soon as possible."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1921 Paul Anderson of Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222. When prompted, key in the officer's identification number 1921 and leave a message. Alternatively, you may contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
