Park and ride scoops green award

A brand new park and ride has scooped a green award weeks ahead of its opening.

The Enderby facility won the ‘Environmental Sustainability Infrastructure’ category at last week's Constructing Excellence Awards.

Jointly funded by Leicester City and Leicestershire County Councils, the 1,000 space park and ride is due to open on 16th November and is being constructed by Tarmac National Contracting, who submitted the award.

The County Council’s own Billesdon ‘Living Water’ gully water recycling facility was narrowly pipped to the post and picked up a commendation for finishing runner-up in the same category.

The Midlands Highway Alliance (MHA) topped the bill in the ‘Innovation Business Award’. Spearheaded by Leicestershire County Council, the MHA  is a consortium of local authorities who have joined together to make efficiency savings in highway procurement .

Lesley Pendleton, County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “We are delighted to have done so well in these awards. It proves the considerable amount of pioneering work being achieved in Leicestershire.

“All our staff involved in these projects are to be commended, without whom we would not achieve such prestigious accolades.

“We are continuing to turn out work of an exceptional quality and this is being recognised in the industry.”

The regional Constructing Excellence Awards were held at Derby Roundhouse last Thursday (15th October). The winners of each category will go through to a National Final in London on 19th November.
