New play area for Mountsorrel

Children of Mountsorrel are set to get a brand new play area with help from Leicestershire County Council’s SHIRE Environmental Improvement Grant.

The old play area off Halstead road is to be revamped with new equipment including toddler swings and a multi play unit with towers and slides. The existing slide and swings will also get a fresh look with a good clean and a coat of paint.

The play area is the third of three faciities to be upgraded following Mountsorrel’s Parish Plan in 2005 and is set to cost £65,000 with a SHIRE grant contribution of £10,000.

Ernie White, Cabinet Lead Member for Better Places at Leicestershire County Council said, "It’s really good to see Parish Plan projects happening on the ground. SHIRE Grants were designed to help communities implement their own priorities and this is a really good example of that happening in practice "

Note to Editor

SHIRE Environmental Improvement Grants are available to assist community based projects up to 50% of the project cost to a maximum £10,000. www.leics.gov.uk/shire

The remaining funding for the play area has come from Mountsorrel Parish Council

The other two play areas are on the recreation grounds off Little Lane and Loughborough Road, Mountsorrel

It is hoped that the project will be completed by Christmas 2009
