Police are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at a children’s nursery Charnwood Road in Shepshed.

The incident happened at Charnwood Day Nursery sometime between 8pm on Monday October 5 and 7.30am on Tuesday October 6 when thieves broke in through a side window and stole two cash boxes.

They also took two cameras which they use to take photographs of the children to show their parents. One was a dark grey Olympus camera and the other was a silver Cannon camera.

The cash boxes were grey and red respectively with the grey one being slightly larger. Both contained cash and cheques.

PC Andy Dixon, who is investigating the incident, said: “This has been a terrible blow for the nursery. They used the cameras to record the children taking part in activities to show their parents.

“We’ve put leaflets through the doors of houses around the nursery in a bid to try and identify witnesses.

“It may be that the cameras and the cash boxes themselves could point to the person responsible. Have you seen any cash boxes dumped anywhere? Perhaps you’ve been offered an Olympus or Cannon camera for sale?

“Did you see any suspicious activity in and around Charnwood Road either overnight on Monday October 5 or very early the following Tuesday morning? If so, please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 1655 Andy Dixon from Loughborough LPU on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 1655.
