BONFIRE NIGHT BETTER BY TRAIN AT THE GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY
Posted on 03/11/09
newsdesk
Take the train to the flame is the message from the Great Central Railway this bonfire night - but leave the sparklers at home. The award winning railway attraction is expecting thousands of people to descend on Quorn and Woodhouse station on November 5th to warm themselves by a huge bonfire and watch it's biggest ever firework display.
The railway is helping to promoting a safety message this year, asking visitors not to bring their own fireworks to the organised event, particularly sparklers for the safety of themselves and those around them.
"We are planning our biggest ever firework display this year and we hope it will be a magic family night out", said Kate Tilley of the Great Central Railway. "Organised displays are still the safest way to enjoy Bonfire Night but we urge visitors to leave the sparklers at home."
The railway will also be running trains from Loughborough, Rothley and Leicester North stations to take passengers to the display saving time in the queue at the gate.
"You can make a night of it, continued Kate, "Catching the train to Quorn. Treat the
family to a ride before the show, and beat the traffic or the queues at the entrance to Quorn station. Parking is very limited at Quorn so we advise taking the train."
The gate at Quorn opens at 6.15pm The bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm and the fireworks will start at 8pm. Hot food and refreshments on sale. including a real ale tent. A family of two adults and three children can arrive at Quorn gate and pay just 15 to get in. Adults pay 5 and children just 3. Payment at the gate is CASH ONLY.
However a train ride to the display from any station costs only 8 per adult and 6 per child making it a very good value night out. A family of two adults and up to three children can travel and get into the display for jutst 20. The first train from Loughborough to Quorn is 6pm, the first from Leicester North to Quorn is 6pm.
For guests using wheelchairs, there is a reserved viewing area. We ask those visitors to arrive promptly as the gates open.
Please note. 'Friends of the Great Central Railway Main Line' members free admission to the site is suspended for this event.
