Loughborough MP Andy Reed calls for inquiry
Posted on 03/11/09

Failure at Tory County Hall could see the closure of the third largest school in the County and threaten the success of Loughborough's school reorganisation claimed Andy Reed MP today.
"The fact that County Hall have made such a mess of school reorganisation in Melton could lead to the closure of one of its most prominent schools. Worse for Loughborough it clearly threatens the bid for 80m from Government for the rebuilding and modernising of Loughborough schools" said Andy Reed.
"I have always been cautious about the way County Hall handled the Melton reorganisation. I kept hearing of potential problems. This is why I have been very cautious about the campaign for change in Loughborough. The positives can be outweighed by the negatives like closure of schools and the impact it has on children.
"I fear now that government will cast a very suspicious eye over any bid from Leicestershire County Council. I know I will make sure Labour councillors from Loughborough are analytical in their appraisal of any scheme the Tories bring forward for the town and Quorn.
"I will be asking to meet Education bosses at County Hall to get some guarantees about the way they are handling the Loughborough case. I need to be reassured they won't make the same mistakes as they have in Melton."
Reed added What is happening in Melton has implications for the future of secondary education across the county including Loughborough where a 80m bid to rebuild our secondary schools is at risk. We need an inquiry as to what went wrong in Melton and I shall also be discussing this issue with relevant ministers at the DCSF.
