ASB roadshows prove popular

A series of roadshows aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour and improving community safety have proved popular with Charnwood residents.

The Charnwood Community Safety Partnership is hoping to stage the events again next year after hundreds found out more about anti-social behaviour during a tour of the borough.

Partners visited 17 locations in towns and villages in the area, including Loughborough. Shepshed, Mountsorrel, Rothley and Syston. in a bid to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour during the summer holidays.

Visitors were able to walk away with information about how to report incidents, how agencies respond to complaints and how residents are supported if they take a stand in their communities to tackle anti-social behaviour.

A pair of beer goggles which demonstrated how peoples senses are impaired after consuming alcohol proved to be particularly popular with people who visited.

Residents also got the chance to discuss any concerns they had with representatives from Charnwood Borough Council, the police, Charnwood Neighbourhood Housing, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Leicestershire Primary Care Trust, local councillors and other agencies such as Leicestershire Youth Offending Services IMPACT Team.

More than 750 people filled in customer surveys at the roadshows which are now being analysed.

Chairman of Charnwood Community Safety Partnership David Snartt said: I am pleased so many people visited the roadshows and took away with them some useful advice and information.

Reducing anti-social behaviour is one of the Partnerships top priorities and working with communities is an important way of tackling this issue.

We are all working together to help people feel safe in their neighbourhoods and reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour, which can cause so much distress in local communities.

Inspector Tim McCabe, Commander of Loughborough Local Policing Unit, said; The road shows were part of our Safer Summer campaign designed to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour such as criminal damage, graffiti, vandalism and underage drinking during the school holidays. I am really glad they proved so popular and we will be looking closely at the responses to the questionnaires, with our partners, to make sure the right measures are in place to tackle any issues or concerns residents have raised. I am pleased to say that we are currently seeing a reduction in anti-social behaviour of 23% and we will continue to work with other agencies to try and reduce the number of incidents even further.
