Young people in Leicestershire achieved Bronze and Silver Arts Award this year and are now starting their journey towards a gold award.

On Thursday 5th November twenty young people from across Charnwood will be congratulated on achieving their Arts Award by Cllr Peter Lewis from Charnwood Borough Council.

Young people from Hind-Leys College, Wreake Valley College, Rawlins College, Shepshed High School, Next Level Caf and Bill Brookman Productions all completed their Arts Award successfully and will now be progressing on to their silver and gold Arts Award.

The young people's Arts Award is the first accredited scheme to underpin the development of young artists and young arts leaders aged 11 to 25 and in the county, is led by Leicester and Leicestershire Arts in Education. Many schools and youth organisations are also delivering this Award across the county.

Cllr.Peter Lewis, Cabinet Lead for Culture & Leisure from Charnwood Borough Council, said: Today, when young people are often accused of just sitting cabbage-like in front of a computer, its a tribute to everyone involved that were able to present these Awards. Art needs audiences, and artists belong to the wider community. Such creativity can inspire others to look twice at the things we take for granted, be it places, people, or ideas. My warmest thanks to all involved in this imaginative initiative weve all been delighted at such a positive response. Now go for Gold!

Arts in Education is a joint service of Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council offering dance, drama and music opportunities to many thousands of young people every year.
