Reed Supports Campaign on Pay and Work Rights

Loughborough MP Andy Reed is backing a major national drive to help employees throughout the country know exactly what their rights in the workplace are. The campaign driven by BIS has additional support for employers too.

A key part of the campaign features a new Hotline, launched by BIS, which replaces five previous separate helplines for workers and employees.

The Hotline called Pay and Work Rights Helpline 0800 917 2368 or Text phone 0800 121 4042 takes all calls in confidence, and one of its main purposes is to make it easier for workers to access information on their rights, to report abuses, and to facilitate the investigation of multiple issue complaints that involve several agencies.

Employers too are able to obtain information and advice on the relevant rights.

The Helpline can handle such enquiries relating to pay, hours and deductions, National Minimum Wage, Agricultural Minimum Wage, Gangmaster Licensing, Working Time Directive and Employment Agency Standards.

The helpline can handle calls from different nationalities with telephone operators having access to Language Line which offers help and advice in more than 100 different languages.

Welcoming the initiative Andy Reed stated we take it as a given that people at work know their rights, however this is not of course always the case. He added with people invariably no longer working simply for one employer all of their working life, being able to obtain free and confidential advice is I believe a major step forward and can help contribute towards better informed workforce and a happier workplace.
