Fun on the park deemed a success

An event aimed at addressing anti-social behaviour in a Loughborough neighbourhood has been deemed a success.
Residents young and old took part in the Fun on the Park event which was organised by Leicestershire Youth Offending Service’s IMPACT Project and Charnwood Borough Council.
The aim of the event, which took place In Thorpe Acre Park last month, was to signpost young people to local provisions that are available for them to access and to prevent them from taking part in anti-social behaviour in the area.
More than 80 young people attended the and were not only able to get information on local provisions, but were also able to take part in activities such as dance workshops, face painting, a bouncy castle, healthy eating events, non-alcoholic smoothie making and a penalty shoot out.
Kam Chauhan, Impact Project Manager, said: “We are pleased to say Fun on the Park was a success, with both younger and older members of the community taking part.
“We wanted to ensure that young people in the locality were aware of what provisions they can access and, working together with other agencies, we were able to direct 28 young people to number of new activities and provisions in the area on the day - which is fantastic.”
Chairman of Charnwood Community Safety Partnership Cllr David Snartt said: “Events of this type are paramount in securing the best possible outcomes for young people.
“It is often the case that young people need to be signposted to local groups and organisations, which can assist and enable them to occupy their spare time with meaningful activities.
“Charnwood’s Community Safety Partnership positively promotes the engagement of young people in diversionary activities, as a means of deterring them from becoming involved in anti-social behaviour and thus reducing the level of anti-social behaviour experienced in our communities.”
