Junior masterchef comes to Greenfield Primary School
Posted on 10/11/2009
If you thought Masterchef was only for adults you had better think again as Greenfield Primary School prepares itself for junior masterchef!
As part of National School Meals Week, Greenfield Primary School decided to host their very own junior masterchef competition, and the pupils there have been busy creating their menus ever since.
The criteria for the pupils was to make a two course meal of their own, which was nutritionally balanced including two fruit and vegetable components, themed and a cost of £1.25 per head.
Four, year five and six pupils have been whittled down from ten entries to take part in the final. The pupils will need to cook the main course element for the cook off stage of the competition.
Jackie Manship of the School Food Support Service said: “We are really excited about the prospect of a junior masterchef competition it is great to see the children thinking enthusiastically about food. It is really important to make food fun, and we hope this will be the case with the competition. “
Some of the entries include Freya Garratt’s crazy pasta mess served with garlic bread, Louis Green’s pasta with bacon, sausage and fantastic parmesan sauce and Jamie Hall’s toad in the hole with creamy mashed potatoes, carrots, and broccoli.
The judging panel will include Mel Jones, head chef at Lutterworth Sherrier primary school, and the winner of the Leicestershire heat of the Masterchef competition, Paula McKee - dietician, two eleven year old pupils at Greenfield Primary School, the local policeman, a governor and Jackie Manship of the SFSS.
