Pioneering Care Scheme Celebrates 10th Birthday
Posted on 16/11/09
Adult Social Care Service
A pioneering new approach to homecare in Leicestershire is celebrating its 10th birthday.
One of the first of its kind nationwide, the County Council's HART scheme (Home Care Assessment and Reablement Service) has made a massive difference to the lives of disabled and older people.
HART works with adults for up to six weeks and changes lives by supporting people to regain confidence and daily living skills, helping them maximise their independence within their own home.
Over 2,000 people across Leicesteshire receive care through the project every year. Just over half of those do not need on-going support and for those that still do, most need less support than when they first received the service.
To recognise HART's achievements and the dedication of the staff involved, a celebration is being held on Tuesday (17th November).
David Sprason, County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “HART offers people the means to regain and maintain their dignity and independence and the freedom to live their lives as they choose.
"Back in 1999, HART demonstrated a new way of working and is now recognised nationally but none of this could have been achieved without the staff who actually deliver the service.
"I would like to offer my congratulations to all of the dedicated staff whose hard work and commitment have helped the HART service reach this important milestone."
During the last 10 years, the HART service has grown from a small pilot into a countywide specialist home care service providing care and support to adults who have been assessed as eligible for domiciliary care.
In recent years, HART has been the subject of several CSED (Care Services Efficiency Delivery) studies and the success of its social care model recognised nationally as a beacon of good practice.
