Assault in Ashby Road, Loughborough

Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of an assault in Ashby Road, Loughborough.

The incident happened shortly after 3.15am on Halloween (Saturday October 31), when the two victims, both men aged 21-years-old, were assaulted by three men, near to the roundabout with Epinal Way.

Following the incident the men drove off in a dark green or black, small car, similar to a Volkswagen Golf or Polo. A woman was also there during the incident and was seen to drive off with the men.

The victims received injuries including scratches, bruising and cuts to the face and head. They were taken from the scene to the Leicester Royal Infirmary, by the Ambulance service, for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle is described as white, aged in his late teens to early twenties, of medium build and between 5’10” to 5’11” tall. He had very short shaved hair and was wearing dark trousers and a hooded top. He spoke with a local accent.

The two other men involved are described as black or Asian, of large build, with short hair and of a similar age to the driver.

Detective Constable Loyala Overlunde, the officer investigating the incident, said: “We are hoping that the fact the assault happened on Halloween will increase the likelihood that someone witnessed what happened.

“During Halloween you often see a rise in parties and special events at clubs and bars. We are aware that there was a Halloween event on at the students union on Ashby Road, not far from where the incident happened. If you were at the event and left around 3.15am we would like you to think back and try and remember if you witnessed the assault or anything you think could relate to it.

“Prior to the incident the car had been travelling along Ashby Road from the city centre. Just after passing the victims the car stopped and reversed back up the road stopping in line with where the victims were standing.

“If you were out on Halloween in Loughborough we would like you to think back. Can you remember seeing the vehicle described? Perhaps you witnessed it reverse up the road and thought it was odd? Did you see the assault that followed? Did you see where the vehicle went after the assault?

“We would also like to appeal to anyone who thinks they know those responsible. If you think you know who they are or have any information about the assault, please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact DC 445 Loyala Overlunde on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for a police officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number 0445. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, which is free* and anonymous on 0800 555 111.
