Loughborough launches its 12 Days of Christmas

A flurry of festive fun is on the cards as Loughborough launches its 12 days of Christmas programme.
It will kick off on Sunday, November 29 when Dora the Explorer switches on the Christmas lights with her cousin Diego.
The event is the first of a host of exciting Yuletide events and activities that have been organised by the Loughborough Town Centre Partnership and Charnwood Borough Council.
And, to complement the packed programme, shoppers will benefit from free parking at Charnwood Borough Councils car parks on Sundays in the run up to Christmas following the switch on (excluding Browns lane) and at the Carillon Court on Sundays and Wednesdays after 5.30pm.
The full programme has now been revealed and includes:
-Sunday, November 29. Entertainment starts off at 1pm in The Market Place and will include fun fair rides, the singing final of this years Charnwoods got Xmas Talent contest, competitions, bands, BBC Radio Leicester and more. Dora and Diego will be on hand from noon until 6pm and the lights will go on at 5pm.
-Saturday, December 5: A market complete with a snowman character will be held in the town centre from 11am to 3pm. There will be fun for all the family, as well as a childrens competition.
-Sunday, December 6. A Santa Fun Run, organised by Loughborough Rotary Club, will leave the university and make its way to the town centre. A stage show and entertainment will take place from 11am onwards in the Market Place.
-Wednesday, December 9: A farmers market will sell extra special items to contribute to the Christmas feast from 9.30am to 2.30pm.
-Friday, December 11: A French and Christmas Craft Market will offer shoppers the chance to bag extra special gifts. Carols and hot chestnuts will contribute to the festive atmosphere. This will also include the last bric-a-brac market of the year
-Saturday, December 12: Meet the snowmen at this market from 11am to 3pm. There will also be a competition to win a Christmas hamper.
-Sunday, December 13: A Cultural Day will see the finalists of Charnwoods got Xmas Talents dance competition strut their stuff and there will also be a guest appearance from Chinese Lion Dance. The day starts at 11am and there will be the chance to meet The snowmen from 11am to 3pm at the Carillon Court Shopping Centre.
-Wednesday, December 16: People can take advantage of the late night shopping to make sure they have bought all the gifts they need.
-Saturday, December 19: The snowmen will be about again when a market is held between 11am and 3pm. There will be a last chance to win a Christmas hamper.
-Sunday, December 20: A Market will be held throughout the day and there will also be live entertainment and hot chestnuts. Free caricatures will be available in the Carillon Court Shopping Centre.
-Thursday, December 24: A Christmas Eve market will see the last chance for people to buy those Christmas treats and essentials.
-Additional markets will also be held on Sunday, December 20 and Wednesday, December 23.
Lead member for Culture and Leisure at Charnwood Borough Council Peter Lewis said: We hope this exciting programme will see Loughborough bustle with Christmas cheer.
I would urge people to come along to Loughborough this Christmas, support our shopkeepers and market traders and take in the wonderful festive atmosphere that this action packed programme will create.
