Bid to improve bus route

People are being asked for their views on plans to improve bus routes along the A426, which takes in Aylestone Road, Lutterworth Road and Leicester Road.

Initial proposals for the £450,000 project include adding additional bus lanes to the existing road, improving crossings and junctions and providing more on-carriageway cycle paths.

The plans are being put forward by Leicestershire County and Leicester City councils, and are available to view in Glen Parva Parish Council Offices in Dorothy Avenue, and Aylestone Leisure Centre, Knighton Lane East.

People have until Monday, December 7 to comment on the proposals.

Councillor Patrick Kitterick, the city council’s cabinet lead for transport said: “We know there can be very lengthy delays on the A426 in rush hour and we want to look at ways of minimising this.

“We are asking the public to help us with this by filling out a consultation form that has been delivered to all households in the affected area. We hope we get a good response to this, and that people take the opportunity to have their say.”

Lesley Pendleton, the county council’s cabinet lead member for highways and transportation said: “The A426 is a key route into Leicester city which can get busy at peak times.

“Measures to improve bus routes on the A426 are being considered to help ensure bus providers can provide the best services possible.”

Households in the immediate area have been sent details and a questionnaire, which can also be downloaded or filled in online from the City Council's website at www.leicester.gov.uk/consultations or the County Council’s website at www.leics.gov.uk/consultations

Residents can also call 0116 305 0001, or 0116 252 7000, or visit the customer service centres at County Hall, or New Walk Centre to request a questionnaire.
