Children sing hymns for Children in Need at local Gurdwara
Posted on 19/11/09
Chief Executive's
Photo opportunity: Local children will show their support for Children in Need this year by taking part in a special hymn singing evening at a Sikh Gurdwara in Oadby. The event is taking place at around 6pm on Friday 20th November at the Guru Har Krishan Gurdwara on Kenilworth Drive in Oadby. Roger Wilson, the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council and his wife Sheila will be going along to show their support and to hear the children sing.
Mr Wilson will be presenting certificates and trophies to the participants.
This week also celebrates England's first-ever Inter Faith Week (15th-21st November) which was launched locally earlier this week at County Hall. The aim of the week is to encourage members of the public to find out more about different faiths in their community and to join in with a number of activities taking place across Leicester and Leicestershire.
The week-long events also aim to strengthen positive inter faith relations amongst communities and in particular, to celebrate and build on the contribution that people make to their neighbourhoods and to wider society.
Roger Wilson, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, said:
"I’m looking forward to meeting with everyone at the Gurdwara and hearing the children sing. It is nice to see that children even as young as three are taking part to raise funds for charity. Well done to them all!"
