Road safety information available to shoppers in Loughborough
Police officers will be supporting volunteers on the Charnwood Road Safety stall in Loughborough this weekend to remind motorists and pedestrians how to keep safe on the county’s roads.
The stall is being held in the Market Place in Loughborough Town Centre on Saturday 28th November 2009 between 9am and 12pm. Officers will be there with the town’s Mayor, Councillor Roy Brown, as well as other volunteers from the Charnwood Road Safety Committee. The stall is one of a number of events being held across Leicestershire to mark BRAKE’s Road Safety Week.
Councillor Brown said; “This is the third year we have run the stall and it has proved very popular. We have a large number of leaflets and posters to give to people about a whole range of road safety issues, one of the key ones being the dangers of motorists using their mobile phones while driving. We’ll be there to talk to shoppers about any concerns they may have and to give advice to adults and children. At the end of our day the aim is to reduce the number of accidents on our roads.”
The police will be taking the chance to get the anti-drink driving message across particularly as the season for Christmas parties is about to begin.
Graham Compton from the Traffic Management Department at Leicestershire Constabulary said; “We are delighted to support this event which gives us a great opportunity to talk to people about road safety issues and remind shoppers to think about how they are going to get home safely from their Christmas celebrations and to think about the dangers of still being over the limit the next day.”
