Access for all on popular route

Seven barriers which made access difficult for disabled people using a recreational route have been replaced.
The new barriers make the Guthlaxton Trail accessible to those using wheelchairs and mobility scooters along the popular route through Glen Parva and Blaby, while continuing to deter illegal motorbike use.
The total cost of the new barriers is £13,000, and they are located at various access points to the Guthlaxton Trail, including New Bridge Road in Glen Parva.
The Guthlaxton Trail is a busy walking and cycling route which runs from Market Harborough to Leicester. It is also a bridleway, frequently used by horse riders from nearby stables.
Lesley Pendleton, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation at Leicestershire County Council, said: “The new barriers will ensure there is access for everyone that wants to use the trail, but they will deter illegal motorbike and scooter riders.
“We worked closely with users of the trail in deciding on the best type of barriers to suit their needs. We hope that more and more people can now enjoy this popular recreational route.”
