Council backs toy appeal
Posted on 27/11/09
Chief Executive's
An appeal to buy new toys for thousands of children this Christmas is being backed by Leicestershire County Council.
County Council Chairman Roger Wilson is encouraging staff, councillors and members of the public to support the Toys on the Table appeal. (There will be an opportunity for photos at 11am on Tuesday 15th December when Mr Wilson will hand over the toys collected at County Hall for the appeal)
There are a lot of children within the community who will not get a present this year. They could be children from broken homes, looked after children, or any child, regardless of faith within the community who might not have the chance to get presents in the normal way. The Toys on the Table appeal collects toys donated from around the County to give to these children to help them enjoy the Holiday Season.
Roger Wilson, Chairman of the County Council, said:
“Toys on the Table brings seasonal cheer to children who might otherwise not receive anything. I do hope that everyone will consider buying just one extra gift when they go Christmas shopping this year and donate it to this very worthwhile appeal.”
The need is high for donated new gifts and toys, particularly for infants to 3 year olds (gifts need to be safe) and for youngsters (boys and girls) 12 and over.
Collection points for toys in Leicestershire are:
County Hall:
- Main reception
Connect Service Shops as follows:
- Braunstone Town Council Offices, Civic Centre, Kingsway, Leicester
- Harborough District Council Offices, Adam & Eve Street, Market Harborough
- Charnwood Borough Council, Southfields, Loughborough
Drop Off points:
- Blaby joint Service Shop, High Street, Blaby
- Melton Borough Council Offices, Phoenix House, Nottingham Road, Melton
The collection points will be open until 23 December 2009
