Park and ride to the rugby

Tigers fans are being encouraged to use the new park and ride service from Enderby to get to this Saturday’s match.

The park and ride terminates in the city centre but has a stop outside Leicester Royal Infirmary, which is a short walk from the Welford Road stadium. The service runs every ten minutes until 7pm, Monday to Saturday. A day ticket is £3 and a group ticket for up to five passengers travelling together is just £3.50.

One of the new ‘Quicksilver Shuttle’ buses will be at the stadium prior to the 3pm kick off against Leeds Carnegie.

Fans will be able to guess the number of balloons inside the bus to stand the chance of winning a signed Leicester Tigers shirt. Supporters will also be able to get their hands on a free goodie bag (available while stocks last).

Lesley Pendleton, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “We hope that with space for 1,000 cars, the new park and ride from Enderby can help to ease some of the match day congestion and take away some of the hassle of finding a parking space close to the Tigers’ stadium.”

Patrick Kitterick, Leicester City Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said: “The roads around Leicester do not get much busier than they do on match days.

“Supporters travelling in on the park and ride can avoid most of this congestion as the service makes use of bus lanes for the majority of the journey.”

Charles Rayner, Head of Stadium Operations at Leicester Tigers, said: “It’s fantastic news that Tigers supporters will be able to make use of the new park and ride.

“The opening of the new Caterpillar Stand this season means that attendances are exceeding 20,000 and the new service will make it easier than ever for supporters to get to and from the ground while removing the need to find city centre parking.”

The new park and ride service is a joint project between the City and County Councils and construction partners Tarmac.
