'Wii' wish you a merry Christmas
Posted on 01/12/2009
Highways, Transportation & Waste Management
A Nintendo Wii will be winging its way to the lucky winner of a food waste digester and composter prize draw.
Thanks to a County Council offer, a variety of practical, easy to use and cost-effective food waste digesters and composters are available at massively reduced prices.
From today (1st December) until 14th January, anyone who buys one of the units will be entered into a free draw to win a Wii - there is also a second prize of a digital camera or a third prize of an iPod shuffle.
The following food waste digesters and composters are available to buy, subject to availability:
- Green Cone £7.50 including free professional installation
- Green Johanna £39.95
- Wormery £39.95 including a vouchers for worms
- Bokashi bin £14.95
- Komp250 compost bin £19.95
Food waste digesters take all leftover cooked and uncooked food including leftover sprouts and Christmas turkey bones. Other meat, fish, bones and dairy products can also be put in them as well as the usual compostable food waste such as fruit and vegetable peelings and teabags.
The units transform the leftovers into plant food and soil improvers, liquid fertilisers and healthy nutrients for the garden.
The competition, being offered by the County Council as part of the Leicestershire Waste Partnership, offers a huge saving on retail price and aims to help cut the amount of waste being sent to landfill. Food waste in Leicestershire makes up around 35% of the waste sent to landfill.
Tony Kershaw, County Council Cabinet Member for Waste Management and Vice Chairman of the Leicestershire Waste Partnership, said: "We are encouraging all residents in Leicestershire to take advantage of this brilliant
offer and get on board and help us drive down the amount of waste we put in our bins.”
The competition is available to Leicestershire residents only (excluding Leicester City residents).
For more information, please visit www.leics.gov.uk/waste or call 0116 305 7005.
To order any of the food waste digesters or composters people can visit www.greencone.com and input their postcode in the box indicated for the latest offer price or call free phone 0800 019 2061.
Notes:
This promotion is part of Leicestershire Waste Partnership’s campaign to help prevent waste and raise awareness of recycling services over the festive season.
Campaigns being run by the District and Borough Councils and County Council are all using the ‘Dreaming of a green Christmas’ theme.
The Leicestershire Waste Partnership is made up of the seven districts of Blaby, Charnwood, Harborough, Hinckley and Bosworth, Melton, North West Leicestershire, Oadby and Wigston, together with the County Council.
